Symposium 2016

The 2016 CHC Symposium, "Campus Heritage", took place February 26-27

The 2016 symposium theme was campus heritage and the issues related to the life, death, and health of historic buildings and places on university campuses in Texas.  To that end we assembled an excellent group of speakers to take us through these issues at Texas A&M College Station, University of Texas at Austin, Trinity University in San Antonio, and Rice University in Houston.  As if that weren’t enough, we opened the symposium on Friday night with Sylvia Kendra from the Smithsonian Institute with a talk on the use of new technologies such as BIM for the maintenance and management of their collection of buildings.

Our full roster of speakers :

Sylvia Kendra, Associate Director, Business Administration and Technology, Smithsonian Institution

David Woodcock, Director Emeritus, Center for Heritage Conservation, TAMU

Lilia Gonzales, University Architect, TAMU

Larry Irsik,  Architexas Austin  Speaking on UT and Trinity

Paul Sanders, Broaddus and Assoc., Speaking on Rice

We also included a poster session for students from any university to show projects and research regarding heritage.

The Annual Meeting for APT Texas was held immediately after lunch.  Everyone was encouraged to attend!
